Celebrating the life of
Dr. Miguel A. Fonseca
December 13, 1924 - August 29, 2015
Dr. Miguel Alberto Fonseca, 90, passed peacefully at his home under the care of Hospice Savannah surrounded by his wife, family and friends. Miguel was born on December 13, 1924 in La Mesa, Colombia, South America. He spent his early years in Bogota, Colombia with his large family, including 7 brothers and sisters. He obtained his undergraduate degree and earned an MD (Medical Degree) from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He completed his Residency in Psychiatry at Columbus State Hospital in Ohio.
Miguel wed Carmen Alicia Ortega in Miami, Florida on January 21, 1971, and they had two sons. Miguel worked throughout Colombia and the United States before settling in Savannah and working at Georgia Regional Hospital as a psychiatrist for nearly 25 years. Miguel loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling to Colombia to spend time with family. He loved to play dominos and played on a weekly basis with his close friends. He attended St. Frances Cabrini Church along with his wife.
Surviving are his wife, Carmen Alicia Fonseca, of Savannah, Georgia; his son and daughter-in-law Dr. Alvaro H. and Jennifer Fonseca and their two children Ava Marie and Christopher Gage of Savannah, Georgia; his son and daughter-in-law Miguel A. and Kristin Fonseca and their two children Renee Alicia and Andres Miguel of Miami, Florida; his sister, Betty Fonseca de Camejo of Bogota, Colombia.
The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Tuesday September 1st at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
The funeral service will be at 11:00AM Wednesday September 2nd at St. Frances Cabrini Church.
The family suggests any remembrances be made in his memory to St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
